About your Patent Expert

A woman with shoulder-length brown hair, glasses, and a black blazer smiling at the camera against a dark, textured background.

Beth is a patent agent with 10 years of experience in patent drafting and prosecution. She additionally has 10 years of experience in the molecular biology and biochemistry wet lab. While she loves learning about, talking about, and writing about science, she found wet lab work frustrating because she couldn’t argue with TAQ polymerase until her PCR worked. She chose to become a patent agent because it allows her to help scientists and entrepreneurs protect their inventions and understand the patent process while she gets to learn about their exciting new technology. Besides PCR, she has lab experience with protein expression and purification and next generation sequencing. She has written and/or prosecuted patent applications for technologies including CRISPR gene edited animals, new methods of working with embryonic stem cells, droplet digital PCR, diagnostic tests, and other biological processes. While her specialty is biology, she has also worked with simple mechanical patent applications.

When she is not working, she enjoys playing board games, reading and watching science fiction, knitting, and spending time with her gargoyle gecko, Luna.
